You can still partake in playing games online with your buddies even if you can’t physically be with them. Having a good time isn’t only for kids, remember! Adults who play online games have been shown to benefit from everything from stress relief to improved overall well-being, which is something we all need as a little ‘pick me up’ from time to time.

The finest online games allow you to explore new worlds and take on new challenges while doing so with your pals. So, meet up with an old friend for some virtual exploration, even if you are thousands of miles away from one another. Or why not make new friends and form your own clan without ever leaving your house? Sounds awesome to me. In addition, there are more multiplayer games than ever before, thanks to improved internet speeds and the rise of live service games, so there really is no excuse to not share the fun with others.

Let us now consider some of the best online games around and what makes them especially great to play with your friends online.

Words with Friends 2 – The game’s name says it all: it’s a party with pals. Gather your mother, father, aunt, distant cousin, co-worker, employer, or neighbor and challenge them to a game of scrambling to make words out of the letters you’ve been given. You guessed it, whoever scores the most points is the winner. Your intellect will also get a workout since, let’s face it, there are only so many words that the letter Z can fit into. Don’t you despise it when you have to draw that letter in Scrabble?

Dead by Daylight – Back when asymmetrical multiplayer games were all the rage (remember Evolve?), a clever developer thought to himself, “What if we reproduced classic slasher films, with a squad of vulnerable teenagers and one unstoppable killer?” Dead by Daylight is the result, and it’s basically Friday the 13th: The Game (if it wasn’t already a game in and of itself). Whereas Friday the 13th concentrates entirely on Jason Voorhees, Dead by Daylight features a diverse cast of killers, including unique characters and well-known names like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and the Jigsaw Killer. This one isn’t for the faint of heart… the background music alone is so intense.

Jackbox Games – Is there anyone else who recalls huddling around the family computer playing You Don’t Know Jack? No? Is it just us? Huh. Regardless, the pioneering virtual-trivia startup Jackbox now has a slew of online party games that you can play with up to ten people at a time on your PC using your tablet or smartphone as a controller. We recommend picking up one of Jack’s party packs, which come with five games ranging from doodle and joke contests (like the wildly popular Quiplash and Drawful) to hidden-identity whodunits and, well, trivia.

Psych – You’ll get the idea if you’ve ever played Balderdash. Remotely join the game with your friends, select from various categories, and begin making up phony answers. You’re encouraged to tell lies. Well, that’s fun! In essence, you’ll make up fake answers to real trivia questions, and your friends will have to identify which ones are genuine. The goal is to persuade them to choose yours. You’ll earn points for correctly guessing the answer and persuading your friends to guess yours. A minimum of two players is required.

Among Us – You’ll enjoy Among Us, an online multiplayer social deduction game if you like games like Werewolf. With a party of four to ten people, play as a crew member aboard a starship, sky headquarters, or planet base, attempting to keep your ship together and return to Earth (either those you know IRL or strangers online). However, one of the crew members has been replaced by a parasitic shape-shifting alien who wants to wipe out the rest of the crew before the ship reaches its destination. The problem is that the imposter will destroy the vessel, slip via vents, deceive fellow players, and attempt to frame others to remain undetected and murder off the remainder of the crew.

Meanwhile, the nonalien crew members are tasked with repairing the ship and are forbidden from speaking unless a fatality is reported. The surviving crew can then openly argue who they believe the imposter is via chat and make their best estimate of who should be voted off the ship. The crew wins if the imposter is voted off. Suppose the group unintentionally fires a crew member. In that case, everyone returns to maintaining the ship until another body is discovered, at which point they vote again.

Monster Hunter: World – Monster Hunter: World goes a long way toward democratizing Capcom’s long-running franchise. Even so, in World, the grind is real. Although the loop of killing monsters and upgrading your gear is addictive on its own, it is far more enjoyable when played with a group of friends. As World is so accessible, a series veteran can easily take a beginner out and explain the ropes. Monster Hunter: World has hundreds of hours of multiplayer fun, and the Iceborne update adds much more. You don’t have to buy Monster Hunter: World if you have a Game Pass subscription.
