BP: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT FASHION?
DP: Original voices. I think it is necessary here to distinguish between fashion and style. Fashion is something you buy and has a sell-out date, not in all cases but in many, where as style lasts forever and is timeless and has nothing to do with your budget.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE FASHION INDUSTRY TODAY?
DP: It has been too long in the hands of corporations and is time that we get back to the essence of what creation is about. Personal voices are more interesting than just good product. Of course, good product is essential too, but that is not enough.

BP: YOU CREATED THE FIRST FASHION BLOG, THE FIRST FASHION FILM FESTIVAL. WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?
DP: Before that I had my own brand for 13 years in NYC but what gives me the most pleasure now is building my festival, and that is what I'd like to leave behind.

BP: DO YOU EVER MISS LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES?
DP: Not for one second...

BP: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT PARIS?
DP: The diversity of the city, the architecture and the way of life.

BP: WHAT DRIVES YOU?
DP: Creation and curiosity.

BP: DO YOU LIKE BEING FILMED?
DP: No.

BP: WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS?
DP: For now they are really about building and growing my festival, with a strong base in at least 5 cities.

BP: WHAT IS LOVE TO YOU?
DP: Something that profoundly touches my heart and spirit.

BP: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT LIFE SO FAR?
DP: That the best way to live life is to be true to yourself and not care what others think about you. Be free and carve your own path.

BP: WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIFE?
DP: That each day we start all over again.

BP: WHAT SURPRISED YOU OR WHAT DID YOU DISCOVER ABOUT LIFE THAT SURPRISED YOU MOST?
DP: In a good way, the generosity of certain people that I hardly even knew. In a bad way, how egos can destroy.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY TODAY?
DP: Be free to do what you feel in your gut.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
DP: Nothing lasts forever, it lasts as long as it lasts.

BP: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
DP: Honest, generous and passionate.

BP: HOW GREEN ARE YOU?
DP: Not as green as you. But conscious and concerned about our planet and its resources and animals.

BP: WHY ARE YOU VEGETARIAN?
DP: I'm not pure anymore but was for 20+ years. Now I eat fish. Maybe like Oscar Wilde, I would like all the animals to rejoice around me when I die. I can not imagine ever eating red meat again.

BP: DO YOU FEEL MORE DESIGNERS SHOULD PRODUCE IN A MORE SUSTAINABLE WAY?
DP: I think that it is the right direction.

BP: WHY DO YOU THINK MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE BECOMING CONCERNED ABOUT THESE ISSUES?
DP: Because it is urgent. Look at the natural resources, my personal pet project is saving the koala. Look what greed has done to their habitat and the stress it has brought onto their lives, and hence disease.

BP: WHAT QUALITY DO YOU LIKE IN OTHERS?
DP: Honesty.

BP: WHAT IS A GOOD FRIEND?
DP: Someone that you know is always there for you no matter what, and doesn't need to see or hear from you all the time to know you are there for them. Unconditional.

BP: WHAT IS A GOOD LOVER?
DP: Depends on what you mean, but it's not applicable. After 4 husbands and 20 years of my life focused on my love life all I want is to be alone. So I have no interest in finding a lover, a husband or a life partner.

BP: WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF?
DP: I am straight forward, I cut to the chase, I don't waste my time and I won't waste yours. I like that New York edge that stays with me even though it is the opposite of the French way.

BP: WHAT IS HAPPINESS TO YOU?
DP: Being myself, and sharing time with those that I really care about.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON RELIGION?
DP: I'm one of those people that loves to visit churches and light candles. I love the scent and all of the rituals but prefer a direct contact with God rather than talking to a priest in a confessional. If I were to analyze all religions, the one that I really appreciate the most is Buddhism. But, I'm not a Buddhist, and I was baptized a catholic.

BP: DO YOU BELIEVE IN AN INTELLIGENCE OR ENERGY THAT IS BIGGER THAN YOURSELF? WHAT IS 'GOD' TO YOU?
DP: Yes, I do believe in a power stronger than me and for me that is represented by God. I'm not saying this is a man with a long grey beard, but nevertheless he surrounds me and hopefully lives inside of me. He is the best guide one could ever have. I'm not that into traditional religion, aside from the rituals which I love, but I rather prefer a way of life, and something that you breath and live every moment of the day.

BP: DOES EVERYTHING HAPPEN FOR A REASON OR ARE WE THE REASON WHY THINGS HAPPEN?
DP: I think that everything happens for a reason and that even unpleasant experiences take you a little further. And I believe something good always comes out of a bad experience. I remember being at a party in London years ago, and two elderly men that had a TV show on the BBC, I think it was called The Curious Gardeners or something like that, asked me if I had a strategy in my life.. I said no. I returned the question feeling sure that they did. His answer was no, I believe someone above is throwing down the confetti and we just follow the path. In a way I believe in destiny but I do not believe that you should sit at the edge of the road and just wait for something to happen.

BP: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE HUMANITY TODAY?
DP: Just listen to the news, it is hideous. Take the Jewish murders in Toulouse, as one tiny example. Not to mention total disregard for human life as well as animal and plant life, and total disregard for nature in general. Or the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant explosion and all the lies around that incident, and further the danger it put the Japanese people in.

BP: DO YOU BELIEVE ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD?
DP: It starts with one person. I am reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson now and the opening page has a quote that was used for the apple 1997 Think Different campaign: "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do."
In context:
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

BP: THANK YOU FOR THIS INTERVIEW.
