AN INTERVIEW WITH CALLA HAYNES.

HONEST BY'S SECOND DESIGNER COLLABORATION IS WITH CALLA HAYNES. CALLA, 29, WAS BORN IN TORONTO, CANADA, AND HAS BEEN LIVING IN PARIS FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. AFTER ATTENDING PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN IN NEW YORK AND PARIS, SHE WORKED WITH OLIVIER THEYSKENS AT ROCHAS AND NINA RICCI, WHERE SHE PERFECTED HER TEXTILE AND PRINT DESIGN SKILLS.
HAYNES' BRAND IS BASED ON THE IDEA OF "RELAXED LUXURY" - HER COLLECTIONS ARE UNIQUELY CRAFTED WHILE, AT THE SAME TIME, MODERN AND EASY TO WEAR. HER STRONG PRINT DESIGNS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF EACH COLLECTION. CALLA IS MORE THAN A PROMISING NEW TALENT; CELEBRITIES SUCH AS KARINE VANASSE, SELENA GOMEZ AND ELISABETH OLSEN ARE ALL FANS OF CALLA'S EYE POPPING DIGITAL PRINTS AND BODY CONSCIOUS SILHOUETTES. READ MY INTERVIEW WITH  CALLA HAYNES HERE BELOW.

BP: THE HONEST BY CALLA COLLECTION HAS FINALLY ARRIVED AND WE ARE SO HAPPY WITH THE RESULT! WHAT COLOURS DID YOU CHOOSE FOR THIS COLLABORATION, AND WHY?
CH: I choose this really fresh green because I thought it would be appealing to both men and women. The strong coral accents contrast nicely, and give it a bit of a bump.

BP: WHAT FABRICS DID YOU USE?
CH: I used organic cottons sourced and printed in Germany. The shirt and dress material is cotton satin and the pants are a nice weight of cotton twill. I used cotton tulle as detail on the dress, made in France.

BP: THE ENTIRE COLLECTION WAS MADE IN EUROPE. IS THAT SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO YOU?
CH: My main collection is entirely produced in Europe and I'm very proud of that fact. European manufacturers have extremely high standards and I have continually been very happy with their level of quality. I also believe that it's important to invest in manufacturing that is close to home. This also means that it is easy to build relationships with the people I work with.

BP: YOU CREATED YOUR VERY FIRST MEN'S DESIGNS FOR YOUR HONEST BY COLLECTION. IS DESIGNING FOR MEN VERY DIFFERENT FORM DESIGNING FOR WOMEN?
CH: It wasn't difficult because I really think there is a male equivalent to my female client. This client could be defined as a creative type that appreciates visually unique clothing, prints and colors; a client who appreciates luxury but seeks something a little more relaxed.
Actually I think there are probably more male customers that appreciate my concept of relaxed luxury than women. And Yes, I'm quite inspired now!

BP: YOU ASKED NATALIE JOOS TO MODEL FOR THE HONEST BY CALLA CAMPAIGN. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT NATALIE?
CH: I love Natalie's personal style; her ability to mix vintage garments with designer and new discoveries. She's quite fearless and always looks beautiful.

BP: DO YOU READ HER BLOG 'TALES OF ENDEARMENT' OR DO YOU READ HER POSTS ON STYLE.COM?
CH: Both.

BP: YOU CHOSE JULIEN TO BE THE MALE MODEL. WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT HIS LOOK?
CH: I really liked Julien! My husband's a little jealous because I kept talking about him after the shoot! I loved the way he wore the clothes and made them seem so effortless and easy to wear. I know that prints can be intimidating for men but once he rolled the sleeves up on the shirt and made it his own, it looked so natural.

BP: THE CAMPAIGN WAS SHOT BY MATHIEU CÉSAR. HOW WAS IT TO WORK WITH HIM?
CH: It was a pleasure to work with Mathieu. He was very confident and focused for such a young photographer. He was curious and engaged... oh my goodness, I feel like I'm writing a work performance review!

BP: SOME IMAGES OF THE CAMPAIGN ARE VERY DREAMY. ARE YOU A DREAMER?
CH: I think so..

BP: WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
CH: That the people I love are happy and are enjoying life.

BP: WHAT KIND OF WOMAN AND MAN DO YOU HAVE IN MIND WHEN YOU DESIGN?
CH: I design with a creative type in mind that is attracted to color and print. They have fun with clothing and self-expression but don't take it all too seriously. They have a sense of humor and a sense of whimsy.

BP: MANY CELEBRITIES HAVE WORN YOUR CLOTHES, DO YOU THINK DRESSING CELEBRITIES IS STILL IMPORTANT TODAY?
CH: I don't think that the fashion business has ever been so competitive and difficult as it is today. Any kind of brand awareness is crucial to a labels success, and celebrities are a huge part of that.

BP: I THINK IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO HEAR SOMEONE'S OPINION ON ISSUES WE ALL CARE ABOUT. AND IT'S APRIL, SPRING IS HERE AND LOVE IS IN THE AIR.. WHAT IS LOVE TO YOU?
CH: Love is what makes us all get out of bed in the morning.

BP: ARE YOU A ROMANTIC? IS IT IMPORTANT?
CH: I am maybe not enough of a romantic, but I believe it's very important.

BP: WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR PARTNER, OR RATHER, HUSBAND?
CH: He has a very big heart.

BP: WHAT IS HAPPINESS TO YOU?
CH: Health, family, fresh air and laughter.

BP: WHAT CAN MAKE A RELATIONSHIP LAST FOR A WHOLE LIFE TIME, IN YOUR OPINION?
CH: Patience, kindness and good wine.

BP: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
CH: Shy, but I bite.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
CH: 'There's no crying in baseball' - A League of Their Own.

BP: WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY TODAY?
CH: Patience, kindness and good wine.

BP: THANK YOU FOR THIS INTERVIEW.
