Michael Page also known as MVP has only one blemish in his MMA record and that is against Douglas Lima. In the build-up, many were already saying that Lima was his toughest test on paper due to Lima’s accomplishments.

Michael Page and Douglas Lima were set to face the Grand Prix semi-final. Lima went on to win the Bellator Grand Prix. In the fight, Page looked fast and used his unorthodox style where it is a mix of showboating and sidesteps that would work to lower competition but for Lima, that was not the case.

Douglas Lima landed a well-timed leg kick that put Page down and followed up with an uppercut that put Page to sleep. It was a fast KO in the second round, it might be a learning lesson for Page that his style also defensive flaws and needs to work. His stance is indeed entertaining but it is not as efficient as other stances.

Although there was a time that Page and Lima got into the ground and what was impressive was Page’s wrist control. Lima was not able to do damage on Page despite having the better position, just shows Page is naturally strong, and given better opposition, he could be a world champion.

Since their first encounter, Michael Page has gone on to win 5 straight fights but they are nowhere near Lima’s level. As for Lima, he is coming off a back-to-back loss against Gegard Mousasi and Yaroslav Amosov. Both fights were for the title and sadly Lima fell short.

Now, Page has learned that there are levels to competition and did the loss make him better or Lima is just the better fighter. The question will be answered on 1 October. The fight will take place at Bellator 267 and what better way to fight inside Wembley Stadium, it will be the first Bellator UK event since the COVID pandemic started. Will Page be able to increase his stocks by beating a former world champion?
