UFC CEO Dana White is unimpressed with how Colby Covington handled his fight against Leon Edwards. Yet, despite being described as “slow and old” by the executive, “Chaos” already has plans for his next bout by calling out No. 6-ranked welterweight fighter Stephen Thompson.

Covington failed to snatch the belt from “Rocky” at UFC 296 last Saturday. The two fighters finished all the rounds, with Covington barely making any remarkable move in the fight, especially in the first three rounds. The challenger managed to deliver a takedown in the latter part of the fight, but it was not enough to match the beatings he received from Edwards. In the end, this led to the unanimous decision of the Briton.

Fans and the MMA community were not the only ones to notice the lethargic performance of the American in the cage. Even White expressed frustration over the challenger’s moves, saying Chaos “looked slow” that night.

“I think pressure gets to everybody; I’m sure Leon had a ton of pressure,” White said during the UFC 296 post-fight press conference. “All of these guys deal with pressure. Colby’s been in big fights before. This isn’t Colby’s first rodeo; he’s been in big fights, and he looked slow and old tonight, in my opinion…

“Waiting is never a good idea in this sport. Waiting isn’t good for anybody. He got out-wrestled, looked slow… and Leon looked fast.”

Despite this and his loss, Covington remains confident about taking another fight, calling out “Wonderboy,” who lost to Shavkat Rakhmonov in the event, to be his next opponent.

“There’s a guy that’s been talking a lot of s*** to me in the media, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson,” Covington said. “Everyone thinks he’s a nice guy, but he’s had a lot to say about me. So I’d love to say that to me in the Octagon…

“He’s always got things to say to you guys in the media, but when I see him, he keeps his head down the whole time…I’d love to see him sometime next year, two guys that have never fought that have been at the top of the division for years.”
